How to Risk Well

In international ministry, security training has become standard. Yet protective measures alone are not enough. Those who follow Jesus into complex and high-risk environments need spiritual discernment to understand risk and respond faithfully.

In five live, interactive sessions, we will connect biblical reflection with practical risk-management tools and apply them to situations from ministry and leadership.

The goal is not to become permanently more cautious or more courageous. It is to develop the ability to respond appropriately to the mission and the moment.

The five sessions

From foundations to risk culture

  1. Session 1

    Risk foundations

    How can a biblical understanding of risk guide faithful ministry in high-risk contexts?

    Revisit the theology of risk and explore how the Risk Response Matrix applies to danger, uncertainty, calling, and responsibility. Participants will define a personal learning or application goal and receive the risk-posture self-assessment.

  2. Session 2

    Risk posture

    What shapes my stance toward risk, and how is God inviting me to grow?

    Reflect on your self-assessment results and explore how personality, experience, faith, culture, and organizational expectations influence your responses to risk. Identify strengths, blind spots, and opportunities for a more flexible and faithful approach.

  3. Session 3

    Risk capacity

    How much risk are we free—and required—to carry?

    Explore the difference between willingness and capacity to accept risk. Consider how calling, competence, health, relationships, resources, preparation, and duty of care shape risk capacity at personal, team, and organizational levels.

  4. Session 4

    Risk decisions

    How can we make faithful decisions under uncertainty?

    Apply practices for Spirit-led discernment, recognize both fear-driven caution and reckless exposure, and move beyond simplistic “go or don’t go” choices. Expand your tactical options while remaining aligned with God’s calling.

  5. Session 5

    Risk culture

    What enables a group to take wise, Kingdom-aligned risks together?

    Explore how leadership, trust, communication, accountability, organizational practices, and unspoken assumptions shape risk culture. Identify practical steps toward healthier shared approaches to risk.

Have you participated in the Biblical Risk Academy’s introductory workshop on the Risk Response Matrix within the previous 24 months?

$300 USD or €275 per participant

Please indicate the approximate date of your introductory workshop when registering. Your complete introductory-workshop fee is credited toward the series. The credit cannot be combined with another discount.

Submitting the registration form expresses your interest but does not yet confirm your place. Once six people have registered, I will confirm the program and send you an invoice. The group is limited to twelve participants so that there is room for meaningful discussion and application.

Important details
  • The series will take place if a minimum of six participants register. Registrations will be confirmed once the minimum group size has been reached, and invoices will be issued after the program has been confirmed.
  • Places are limited and are allocated in the order registrations are confirmed. The registration deadline is 26 January 2027. Registration covers the complete five-session series.
  • Sessions will not be recorded. Participants who miss a session will still receive the corresponding slides, worksheets, and shared resources.
  • The returning-participant price is available to those who attended an eligible introductory workshop within the 24 months preceding the beginning of this series.
  • Access information for the Zoom sessions will be sent to confirmed participants before the program begins. Participants are responsible for having a suitable internet connection and a device capable of joining Zoom.
  • To support open and honest discussion, participants are expected to treat personal experiences and sensitive contextual information shared during the workshops as confidential.
  • The program schedule or format may be adjusted if circumstances outside the organizer’s control make this necessary. Participants will be informed of any material changes.

Payment and invoicing

  • Payment is made by invoice. You may pay by PayPal in US dollars or euros, or by bank transfer in euros.
  • The invoice will state the payment currency, payment deadline, and complete payment instructions. For bank transfers, please use Falk Scissek as the account holder and include the invoice number as the payment reference.
  • Any fees charged to you by your own bank or payment provider are your responsibility. PayPal merchant fees are covered by the Biblical Risk Academy.
  • Any refund due under the cancellation policy will normally be returned through the original payment method and in the currency in which the invoice was paid.

Cancellation and refunds

  • A full refund is available if you cancel at least 14 days before the program begins.
  • If you cancel 7–13 days before the program begins, 50% of the fee will be refunded.
  • If you cancel less than seven days before the program begins, the fee is non-refundable, but you may name a substitute participant before the program begins at no additional cost.
  • Workshop sessions missed during the series are not refundable.
  • If I permanently cancel the program, you will receive a refund for the portion that has not been delivered.
